Mamata Expresses Shock At Bappi Lahiri’s Demise

Kolkata, Feb 16 : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday expressed shock at the passing away of noted music composer Bappi Lahiri, who hailed from the eastern state. Music composer and singer Bappi Lahiri, who popularised disco music in the 80s and 90s, died at a Mumbai hospital on Wednesday morning at the age of 69. “Shocked to hear about the untimely demise of legendary singer and music composer Bappi Lahiri,” Banerjee said. “A boy from our North Bengal, he rose to all-India fame and success by the dint of his sheer talent and hard work, and made us proud by his musical contributions,” the chief minister, who is also the chairperson of AITC, maintained. Banerjee said her government had conferred the musician state’s highest civilian award “Bangabibhushan”. ” We had conferred on him our highest state civilian award “Bangabibhushan” and will continue to remember the genius. My sincere condolences,” Banerjee tweeted.
