Mumbai, March 16: The Covid induced lockdown appears have done miracles for the OTT space. After Madhuri Dixit, Raveena Tondon, now actor Kareena Kapoor is all set to jump into the OTT bandwagon. On Wednesday, she announced her entry into the digital space, with ace filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh’s still untitled directorial. Kareena, who will be seen in the project post her lengthy hiatus after having Jeh, will appear in Netflix’s new which will be a murder mystery. It is a screen adaptation of award winning Japanese author Keigo Higashino’s ‘The Devotion of Suspect X’.
Kareena cannot wait to begin work on “this exciting project”, she told the media: “It’s one that has all the right ingredients… a great story, a visionary director and a super talented cast and crew, I’m really looking forward to working with Sujoy, Jaideep, and Vijay.” She has called it “the beginning of an electrifying journey”, announcing it on her Instagram post along with a short clip and a few photos, she said: “And so it begins…” “I can’t wait for audiences worldwide to see this global bestseller book come to life,” she said speaking about the content as Sujoy, too, tweeted: “this is for you and your love….”, sharing the same video teaser. Featuring alongside, the “Chammakchallo” will be Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Varma.
“Devotion is probably the best love story I’ve ever read. and to get a chance to adapt it into a film is such an honour. Plus I get a chance to work with Kareena, Jaideep, and Vijay!!! What more can one ask for,” the “Kahaani” director said. The film is produced by 12th Street Entertainment, Northern Lights Films in association with Boundscript and Kross Pictures.
Welcoming Kareena on board, Netflix tweeted: “We’ve got some Pretty Hot And Tempting news! Kareena Kapoor Khan stars in a thrilling new Netflix film with Jaideep Ahlawat & Vijay Varma, directed by Sujoy Ghosh!” Vijay, who has been a master in his OTT ventures with “Bamfaad” (2020), “A Suitable Boy”, Mirzapur S2, “She” and “OK Computer”, tweeted: “Off we are to another with Netflix! Excited to collaborate with these stalwarts. Trust me when I say, it keeps getting better…” The Producers are Jay Shewakramani, Akshai Puri, Sujoy Ghosh and Thomas Kim. They have hailed Kareena as being “a star performer always across every one of her roles regardless of the format, shade or genre”. Her digital debut is going to be an exciting project for us all, a statement by them said, adding”and of course, Jaideep and Vijay are spectacular actors and will definitely bring their own skill-set to the table.
