Trimmed beard, short hair, sharp suit: Rahul Gandhi has a new look for Cambridge talk

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has taken the internet by storm yet again, this time by appearing in a new look sans his previously trending long hair and beard.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi arrived in the UK on Wednesday to deliver a lecture at the Cambridge University. The Gandhi scion seems to have had a makeover ahead of his UK trip. He had trimmed the now-famous beard which he grew out during the entirety of the Bharat Jodo Yatra and even got a haircut.

In one of the pictures, the Congress leader starkly looked similar to his father, Rajiv Gandhi.

The ‘Learning to Listen in the 21st Century’ lecture is a student-only lecture where Rahul Gandhi also shared his experience of the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Rahul Gandhi will be part of another closed-door session on Big Data and Democracy and ‘India-China relations’ with Professor Shruti Kapila, an Indian-origin Fellow, Tutor and Director of Studies at the university’s Corpus Christi College and Co-Director of the Global Humanities Initiative.

Rahul Gandhi transformation

Over the weekend, Rahul Gandhi will interact with the representatives of the Indian Overseas Congress, the UK chapter, and will address an Indian diaspora conference in London.

Rahul Gandhi’s image had changed drastically from September 2022 when the Bharat Jodo Yatra was kickstarted from Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari, to when it came to a close in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar on January 30.

The Congress leader’s long hair and beard had become a major talking point during the Yatra. In an interview with the Italian daily Corriere della Sera, Gandhi, responding to a question about his beard, said: “I had decided not to cut it for the whole march. Now I have to decide whether to keep it or not…”

On February 8, Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi took a veiled attack on Rahul and tweeted: “Now, one thing is confirmed…! Even if you do a foot march of 3,000 km, it only grows beard and not wisdom…!”
