I Will Not Compromise On Ideals, Anurag Kashyap
Thiruvananthapuram, March 21 : Controversial filmmaker Anurag Kashyap on Monday said he will not compromise on his beliefs or political convictions to ensure the success of his movies. He was delivering this year’s masterclass as part of The International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK 2022). Kashyap said his films are usually appreciated more by foreign audiences than in India and he still has to struggle to find financing for his movies. He felt the reason for that was because a regressive culture where everything is considered taboo was taking hold in India. “I don’t find many people for the screening of my movies,” quipped the filmmaker, who spoke in detail about his conservative upbringing, his journey to Mumbai and his struggles as a filmmaker. Kashyap declared that he could not make movies any other way. His style of film making has been a product of years of intense struggle. He said: “I was consuming movies day and night while working as a writer for uncredited TV shows to make a living to keep the dream alive.” Artistic director for IFFK, Bina Paul, conducted the interview part of the masterclass. A question and answer session followed the masterclass.
