Kolkata, Feb 21 : Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt who is promoting Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, in which she plays the title role, visited the city on Monday to launch the latest track ‘Meri Jaan’ from The film. Launching ‘Meri Jaan’ amidst a large posse of media persons and crazy fans in South Kolkata’s famed find auditorium Priya, Alia seemed in high spirits as she posed for photographs. The track has been composed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and sung by Neeti Mohan. A keenly awaited film, widely acclaimed at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival where it premiered on February 16, Gangubai has been produced by Bhansali and Dr. Jayantilal Gada (Pen Studios). It is all set to release in the theatres on February 25.
The film also stars stars Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari and Seema Pahwa in pivotal rooms, with Ajay Devgn featuring in an extended cameo. The narrative walks through the life of young Ganga who in no time marks her own territory and becomes Gangubai – a madame in the red light area of Kamathipura. The film is loosely based on the true story of Gangubai Harjivandas, popularly known as Gangubai Kothewali, whose life was documented in the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai written by S. Hussain Zaidi. The film depicts the rise of a simple girl from Kathiawad who had no choice but to embrace the ways of destiny and swing it in her favour.
