Dua Lipa Opens Up On Reclaiming Her ‘Lost’ Viral Dance From Years Ago
London, Mar 5: In promotion of her ongoing ‘Future Nostalgia’ tour, English pop star Dua Lipa in a recent appearance on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ opened up about a viral clip of her dancing at a concert in 2017 and how she since then has gone on to reclaim it.
When Jimmy pointed out that a large section of people hated the dance calling it “lazy” and “uninspired”, the singer responded by saying that in the five years since there are no hard feelings and hinted that she might even be grateful to the bullying as it has only made her push forward in improving herself. Being a rather good sport about all the ridicule she faced, she said “There was a moment where actually it caused me a lot of grief,” said the singer on Thursday.
“Like, I was being bullied online, it wasn’t very nice. But now I’m like, you know, I can look at it from a different perspective. I look back on it with such fondness ’cause it helped me grow into the artist I wanted to become. It made me work harder. I went in, I did more rehearsal, I just wanted to become a real performer, and I think that was kind of the thing that I needed to [do so].”
Lipa’s Future Nostalgia tour kicked off last month in Miami, Florida in support of the artist’s second studio album of the same name. The concert series was originally set to begin in 2020 after being announced in December 2019, but was postponed amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Lipa had previously opened up about the impact that the video’s negative reaction had on her as an artist. “It’s one thing when people are mean about you, but you know that you did your best,” she told Vanity Fair in June 2021. “But it’s another thing when people are mean about you, and you know that you actually haven’t had the opportunity to be the best because you’ve spread yourself so thinly in trying to do everything at once.”
The singer added that the backlash only made her want to prove her self more with the release of her second album “Future Nostalgia “You want to show that you’re here to stay and you want to show that it’s not just about one album or one big song or whatever it is,” Lipa said. “I just wanted to make sure that this time around, I was very much in control of the fact that I’m going to do the music, then I’m going to rehearse”.
She continued: “And then when I come in and I do the performances, they’re all going to be amazing. I’m going to prove to people that I can do this and that I’m here to stay.”
