Washington, Mar 1 : Rock musician Dee Snider, whose grandfather was Ukrainian, proudly supports the people of Ukraine co-opting Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It” as a protest anthem during the Russian invasion. On Sunday the singer and guitarist tweeted: “People are asking me why I endorsed the use of ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’ for the Ukrainian people and did not for the anti-maskers.”
“Well, one use is for a righteous battle against oppression; the other is a infantile feet stomping against an inconvenience.” The American singer on Saturday approved Ukrainian citizens to use “We Not Gonna Take It” as their rallying cry in the fight against Russia, reports Los Angeles Times. “I absolutely approve of Ukrainians using ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’ as their battlecry. My grandfather was Ukrainian, before it was swallowed up by the USSR after WW2. This can’t happen to these people again!” the rocker tweeted, adding the hashtag “#F–KRUSSIA.”
In response to some who criticized him for condemning all of Russia for Putin’s actions, Snider added in a follow-up tweet, “My grandfather was Ukrainian when it was taken over by Russia after WW2. My grandmother was Transylvanian when the Russians took over & occupied the Carpathian mountains. Who do you think were carrying those Russian guns, driving the tanks & flying those planes? Canadians?” A former Miss Ukraine, Anastasiia Lenna, has also joined thousands of her fellow citizens who have armed themselves in preparation to fight against Russian troops, reports The Independent.
Anastasiia Lenna, who was 24 when she competed in 2015 for Ukraine in the Miss Grand International beauty contest, posted a video on Sunday of herself firing an assault rifle at targets in a shooting range. The Kyiv-based model and TV personality posted the clip in an Instagram story on Sunday writing: Training. The invaders will die on our land! All world see this! Wait and see what will happen, reports The Independent. “… Anyone who wants to join the defence of security in Europe, the world can come and stand side by side with Ukrainians against the invaders of the 21st century. Ask your embassy.”
