New Delhi, Feb 11: BTS’ Jungkook and Suga’s sublime number “Stay Alive” was finally released on Friday and it is already breaking records.
With this Jungkook now has the latest top song on US iTunes. It marks his official solo debut at the top of the chart.
“Stay Alive” is produced by Suga and sung by JK. It is the OST for HYBE’s original story “7FATES: CHAKHO” webtoon. The song was partially revealed on February 5, along with episode 4 of the webtoon.
This is the first time an webtoon is using an OST as background music in global releases in all 10 languages. It surpassed No.1 position on iTunes in 50 countries just three hours after its release.
In the US it is on top, while in Canada, Germany and Netherlands it is at 2. It is trending in Japan and Australia. “Stay Alive” is a pop ballad exuding a dreamy, sublime energy. It complements the storyline and atmosphere of the urban fantasy which portrays confrontations between humans and the Beom tribe in a corrupt world.
The title, “Stay Alive” is a message to the characters in the story as they try to survive in the vicious world. The lyrics explore an isolated boy’s earnest heart and message to himself and friends who he meets during the unequal battle.
According to fan translator doolsetbangtan, the lyrics go “the one phrase that saved me / even when many days pass, I’ll be by your side / that one phrase / even …, that I’m by your side / please you stay alive.”
In its first teaser before February 5, a short 13 second haunting “please stay alive” by Jungkook had left fans asking for more. “7FATES: CHAKHO” was launched in 10 languages around the world in January, and immediately drew phenomenal responses amassing more than 15 million views within two days.
It is an urban fantasy reinterpretation of chakhogapsa, a legendary group of tiger hunters from the Joseon Dynasty. A new episode is released every Saturday. The song is dropped alongside a dramatic promotional video, which mixes animation from the webtoon and live-action scenes featuring the boyband. The video for ‘Stay Alive’ features in-person appearances of all seven members of the BTS. The main characters, based on the members of BTS, have their fates intertwined to face trials and tribulations as they attempt to track down the BEOMS. 7 Fates: CHAKHO is available on Naver Webtoon. Future stories will be inspired by ENHYPEN and TXT, titled Dark Moon and The Star Seekers respectively, are also being released.
