‘Anek’ Proves Disappointment, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ Remains First Choice
Mumbai, May 29: Ayushmann Khurrana’s latest film “Anek” continues to struggle at the box office after a lacklustre start of INR 1.75 crore on the opening day, and showing only minor growth on Saturday of INR 2 crore totalling to over Rs. 3.75 crore.
The socio political action drama has mostly received both positive critical and audience reception with many calling it a unique film which both drives home an important point and does it nicely, if not flawlessly focusing it on its script, choreography and acting.
“Anek” delves into the conflict in the North East and emphasizes the need for a unified India which pays more attention to ‘Indian-ness’ first rather than regional identities. “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2” however continues to dominate the box office so far as the Anees Bazmee horror comedy directorial has managed to already enter the Rs.100 crore club adding around Rs. 11.25 – Rs. 11.35 crore nett to its tally on its second Saturday, and is now currently on its way to enter the INR 150 crore club, making it the biggest Bollywood success of the year the first choice for viewers this month.
Despite the positive reception and high praises for “Anek”, this is probably the lowest that an Ayushmann Khurrana film has earned in recent years.
