Municipal Polls: SEC Presents A Revised Limit On Candidates’ Expenditure

Bhubaneswar: The State Election Commission has presented a revised limit on the of candidates expenditure ahead of Municipal polls in Odisha.

Reportedly, the expenditure limit has been revised that may be incurred by a candidate either by himself or through any person authorized by him for election as Councillor/ Corporator/ Chairperson/ Mayor to a NAC/ Municipality/ Municipal Corporation.

The decision has been taken after consulting with State Government in the exercise of the powers conferred under Sub-Section (1) of Section 17-A of the Odisha Municipal Act, 1950 and Section-82 of Odisha Municipal Corporation Act, 2003.

i. NACs/Municipalities having a population up to 50,000 Rs.50,000/- Rs.2,00,000/-
ii. Municipalities having a population between 50,000 to 1,00,000 Rs.75,000/- Rs.3,00,000/-
iii. Municipalities having a population above 1,00,000 Rs. 1,00,000/- Rs.5,00,000/-
iv. Municipal Corporation Rs.2,00,000/- Rs.12,00,000/-
