Mumbai, Feb 2: Extending gains for the third consecutive session, the BSE Sensex on Wednesday rallied 695.76 pts to close at 59,558.33 following gains in Bankex, Finance, Realty, IT and Technology stocks. Budget euphoria was seen today also, as the Banks, Finance, Consumer Durable and IT stocks gave fillip to the market. The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too moved up 203.75 pts at 17,780.
The day opened on a strong note, breaching 59K level at 59,293.44 pts, up 431 pts. It remained in green throughout the session, as it was 59,618.51, zooming up 756 pts, days high, before closing at 59,558.33, advancing 695.76 pts from its last close. The Sensex registered days high and low at 59,618.51 and 59,193.05 respectively. The Nifty recorded days high and low at 17,794.60 and 17,674.80 respectively.
In sectoral indices, Bankex was a star gainer, up by 2.08 pc followed by Finance by 2 pc, Consumer Durable by 1.50 pc, IT by 1.22 pc and Technology by 1.10 pc. In scrips, IndusInd Bank glittered by 5.57 pc to Rs 973.40 Bajaj Finserv by 4.96 pc to Rs 16,680.65, HCL Technology by 3.40 pc to Rs 1171.10, Bajaj finance by 3.17 pc to Rs 7247.40 and Kotak Bank by 3.05 pc to Rs 1943. Other losers were Tech Mahindra by 1.61 pc to Rs 1482.75, Nestle India by 1.03 pc to Rs 18,471.60, Ultracemco by 0.97 pc to Rs 7439.50 and L&T by 0.47 pc to Rs 1981.85. The Mid Cap rose by 1.08 pc and Small Cap by 0.54 pc. In 30 scrips, 21 advanced while 9 declined. The Asian market too rose as Nikkei 225 by 1.68 pc and Set Composite by 0.36 pc.
