CBI registers ten more cases in connection with West Bengal post-poll violence

New Delhi : The CBI has registered ten more cases and arrested two accused in connection with post-poll violence in West Bengal, a day after eleven separate cases were registered in the matter, taking the number of cases up to twenty one, an official statement said.

In pursuant to the investigation of one of the cases, registered on August 25 by CBI related to the incident at Chapra in Nadia, searches were conducted at 15 different locations and arrested two accused, the statement said.

In an incident that happened in Nadia district, a horde of locals barged into victims’ house in the afternoon and started beating his family members. In fact they were constantly beating them with sticks and other articles and dragged them to another location. When the victim rushed to their rescue, he was thrashed and beaten too.

These cases were earlier registered in different Police Stations of West Bengal on various allegations. CBI took over the investigation of these cases, after Calcutta High Court directed it to take over these cases and probe into the matter, said a CBI official.

The HC gave directives after a committee set up by National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) submitted its detailed report to HC on the violence.
