Puducherry, Jan 31 : Communist Party of India (Marxist) Puducherry Unit Secretary R Rajangam on Monday urged Chief Minister N Rangasamy to shed his silence and take steps to thwart the move of the Centre to privatize the Electricity Distribution Company (Discom) in the Union Territory. In a statement here, Rajangam said the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre is taking steps to sell out the Puducherry Electricity Department, the property of the people here, to those who gave donations to the BJP at a “cheap” rate.
Chief Minister is not concerned at all on this issue and maintaining silence, he said the silence of Rangasamy is creating apprehensions in the minds of the people.
Rangasamy should make concerted efforts to prevent the move of privatization and at the same time, the government should shoulder responsibility for the hardships, if any, caused to the people due to the indefinite strike by the Electricity Department employees from Tuesday, he said.
