COVID Spike: Odisha Seeks 50K Doses Of CorBEvax Vaccine From Centre

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has sought 50,000 doses of Corbevax vaccine in view of demand from public for precaution dose vaccination at government CVCs,

Family Welfare director Bijaya Kumar Panigrahi wrote a letter in this regard to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on April 10. “There has been a rise in COVID cases in Odisha and also there is a demand from public for precaution dose vaccination at government CVCs,” he wrote with requesting for supply of Corbevax with long expiry for the state at the earliest.

“…, presently there is a rise in COVID cases in Odisha. Also, there is a demand from the Public for precaution dose vaccination at Government CVCs. Hence, you are requested to kindly supply at least 50,000 doses of CorBEvax vaccine with long expiry to the State as early as possible,” read the letter.

Odisha Public health director Niranjan Mishra said the infections are being reported from 16 districts in the State. “The positivity rate in the country is 6.9 per cent whereas it is 2.8 per cent in Odisha. Infections are being reported from 16 districts in the State,” Mishra said.

Since August last year, Biological E’s Corbevax is being administered as a precaution dose for people above 18 years double vaccinated with either Covishield or Covaxin. India’s first indigenously developed RBD protein subunit vaccine Corbevax was also used to inoculate children in the age group of 12 to 14 years under the COVID-19 immunisation programme.

Odisha has been witnessing an upward swing in daily caseload with 141 fresh infections in the last 24 hours, taking the active tally to 731. The state has a positivity rate of 2.8%. One death has been reported so far this year.
