Maruti Suzuki’s March Sales Up
Mumbai, April 1: Leading car maker Maruti Suzuki on Friday reported a marginal 2 per cent increase in total auto sales of 170,395 units for March as compared to the corresponding period last year led by higher exports. The company had retailed 167,014 units in the corresponding period last year, it said in a statement here. “The total sales in the month include domestic sales of 137,658 units, sales to other OEMs of 6,241 units and its highest ever monthly exports of 26,496 units,” the company said.
Its domestic sales declined by 7.4 per cent year-on-year to 143,899 units from 155,417 units in March 2021 as the shortage of electronic components had some impact on the production of vehicles in FY 2021-22. For 2021-22, Maruti Suzuki India posted a total sales of 16,52,653 units. “The company took all possible measures to minimise the impact.
As the supply situation of electronic components continues to be unpredictable, it might have some impact on the production volume in FY 2022-23 as well,” the company added. It said the company has reported the highest ever monthly exports in March of 26,496, demonstrating Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to the government of India’s Make-in-India initiative, it added.
Commenting on the monthly performance, Hisashi Takeuchi, the newly appointed Managing Director and CEO of the company, said: “This export milestone demonstrates the dedication and hardwork of team Maruti Suzuki … These export numbers are a reflection of India’s manufacturing potential and the acceptance of India-manufactured vehicles, all over the world.” Maruti Suzuki has been exporting vehicles since 1986 and has achieved a cumulative export of over 22.5 lakh vehicles.
