Journalist Jhimli Mukherjee Pandey Dies In Road Accident, Mamata Banerjee, Press Club Condole Scribe’s Death
Jaisalmer: Prominent Kolkata journalist and writer Jhimli Mukherjee Pandey dies in road accident near Jaisalmer on Wednesday. Jhimli Mukherjee’s son, mother and driver were seriously injured. The three injured were taken to the nearby Zawahir Hospital. At first their treatment started there but later they were shifted to Jodhpur. Jaisalmer Sadar Police have started investigation into the incident. Police are trying to find out the cause of the accident.
The 49-year-old was a senior assistant editor of the Times of India, Kolkata, had worked in the organisation for over two decades, covering education, communities and heritage with distinction
Jhimli Mukherjee went to Jaisalmer with his family two days ago. The accident took place on Wednesday while returning to Jodhpur from Jaisalmer. The accident took place at around 4 pm near the War Museum, about 20 km from Jaisalmer. The writers’ car collided head-on with a small four-wheeler heading towards Jaisalmer from Jodhpur.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday condoled the death of senior journalist Jhimli Mukherjee Pandey.
Her demise has caused an irreparable loss to journalism, said the chief minister, who conveyed her heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.
Press Club, Kolkata, also expressed shock at Jhimli’s death.
Prominent journalist and writer Jhimli Mukherjee was born in Calcutta. She was in the world of journalism for 23 long years. He wrote in both Bengali and English. Besides, Jhimli Mukherjee has written 6 Bengali novels for children and about 25 short stories. He wrote a graphic novel in English, The Ghost of Gosai Bagan.
