Tokyo Olympics: Equestrian Fouaad Mirza puts up improved show in eventing after opening test

Tokyo : Making his Olympics debut Indian equestrian Fouaad Mirza impressed in the dressage round of eventing at Tokyo 2020 on Friday.
Fouaad and his horse Seigneur Medicott finished 9th among 62 participants in the dressage test by posting a score of 28 at the Baji Koen Equestrian Park.
Eventing involves the horse and rider competing in disciplines of dressage, cross-country and show jumping.
The horse has to perform a prearranged routine in the dressage test in which the quality of trot, regularity of steps, balance and the harmony between athlete and horse are things which wins points.
The goal is to have the fewest penalties, which means that lower the score the better it is for the rider.
Fouaad Mirza will be in action next in the cross country test at the Sea Forest Cross-Country Course.
The cross country and jumping tests are scheduled for Sunday and Monday, respectively. The combined scores from the three tests will establish the top 25 horse-rider pairs who go through to the final which will hold another round of jumping, to determine the medal winners.
