WB: Low to medium voter turnout so far in the by-elections
Kolkata : The high profile Bhawanipur assembly seat by-poll from where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is contesting recorded only 22 per cent voter turnout till 1100 hours, whereas Shamshergunj and
Jangipur seats in Murshidabad recorded as high 40 per cent and 36 per cent respectively, official sources said.
With some 35 companies of paramilitary forces deployed and section 144 CrPc imposed, authorities said that voting has by and large been peaceful so far with no untoward incident being reported, except in Samsherganj, where local TMC leader Anarul Haque was arrested in connection with an explosion incident, which happened a few hours ahead of polling.
TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee in a social media post urged the voters to come out in large numbers and vote in the election.
