TMC holds govt responsible for washout of monsoon session
New Delhi : All India Trinamool Congress (AITMC) here on Saturday held the government responsible for the washout of the monsoon session of Parliament and blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for ‘not being’ accountable to the people.
“Government is accountable to Parliament, and Parliament is accountable to the people. They [government] disrupted Parliament so that they don’t have to debate the Bills,” TMC leader Derek O’Brien said at a press conference.
“The Prime Minister and Home Minister are not accountable to anybody,” he said.
The government and the Opposition have held each other responsible for the washout of the recently concluded monsoon session.
Opposition leaders, since the beginning of the session, wanted a debate on the Pegasus snooping controversy, with a reply by the Union Home Ministry, and also a discussion on the farmers’ protest and the new farm laws.
Attacking the government over the current economic situation, former union finance minister and TMC leader Yashwant Sinha, who was also present at the presser, said, “Disastrous decisions by the government are responsible for the bad shape of the Indian economy. Demonetisation was the biggest failure of the government.”
