Priyanka to go to Bahriach, Rahul to return back to Delhi
Lucknow : Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will go to Bahriach on Thursday to meet the family members of 2 farmers, who were killed in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence on Sunday last.
Party sources here on Thursday said Priyanka will leave for Bahriach at around 1100 hours. She will be accompanied by local Congress leaders.
Priyanka will visit Banjaran Tanda village in Nanpara area of Bahraich district to meet the family members of deceased farmer Daljeet Singh and will then go to Mohania village, also in Nanpara, to express her condolences to the family of deceased farmer Sukhvinder Singh.
However, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will be returning back to New Delhi on Thursday itself around 1400 hours. He will be accompanied by Punjab and Chhattisgarh chief ministers and other leaders, who had gone to Lakimpur Kheri on Wednesday along with Rahul Gandhi to meet the farmers and their families.
Meanwhile, Rahul, Priyanka and other Congress leaders returned back to Lucknow from Lakhimpur Kheri early this morning at 0430 hrs.
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and BSP general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra are also slated to visit Lakhimpur Kheri on Thursday to meet the family members of the two farmers and a journalist killed in the violence.
The Congress delegation led by Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who met the family members of the deceased farmers on Wednesday night assured them of all possible assistance and announced that they will continue to pressurise the UP government to punish the guilty in this case.
Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi also met the family of Palia farmer Lovepreet Singh and resolved to support the family in their struggle for justice. “Congress stands with farmers in every way. We promise to help in every way in their fight for justice,” they said.
Thousands of villagers were present at Chaukhara village in Palia when the Congress leaders reached there.
They spent more than half an hour with the family.
After meeting the family of Lovepreet, Rahul Gandhi tweeted,” Shared grief with the family of martyr Lovepreet. But till justice is not done, this satyagraha will continue. Won’t forget your sacrifice, Lovepreet.” he said
Later talking to the media, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that they will fight for the family till the BJP union minister was sacked and his son was arrested.
Lovepreet’s father claimed that both Rahul and Priyanka had assured them of support in their fight for justice.
Rahul, Priyanka accompanied by Chattisgarh and Punjab CM later reached journalist Raman Kashyap’s house in Nighasan and met his family. They expressed their condolence and assured the family that the party will fight for them till the culprits are punished.
They also met the family members of farmer Nakshatra Singh, before returning back to Lucknow.
On Wednesday, lot of political drama was witnessed during Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Lakhimpur Kheri.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Channi, who were accompanying the delegation have announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 50 lakh each from both the state governments to the kin of the deceased farmers and the journalist.
The other members of the delegation include KC Venugopal, Ajay Kumar Lallu, Randeep Surjewala and Deepender Hooda.
The Uttar Pradesh government earlier gave permission to Rahul, Priyanka and three other people to visit Lakhimpur Kheri after officials met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
While on Wednesday most of the Congress leaders were allowed to proceed to Lakhimpur Kheri, Rajasthan Congress leader Sachin Pilot and Acharya Pramod Krishnan were however detained in Moradabad, while they were heading towards Lakhimpur by road from Delhi.
