Omicron Threat: TVK Moves HC For Ban On New Year Celebrations In UT
Puducherry, Dec 29: Even as different political party leaders urged the NR Congress-BJP government to withdraw the permission granted for New year celebrations here, Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK) Puducherry Unit Convenor Sridhar moved the Madras High Court for imposing a ban on the celebrations.
Sridhar in his writ petition pointed out that the Union government had stated that states has to impose restrictions in the wake of the spread of Omicron variant.
Two cases of Omicron variant had been detected in Puducherry and hence, when New year is celebrated in an open space where a large number of people gather, it will lead the spread of the virus.
The Madras High Court has admitted the petition as an emergency case and it will come up for hearing in the evening, Sridhar added.
