FIR lodged against Priyanka and 13 others for violating Sec 144 in Sitapur : Could be released on bail
Sitapur : After passage of 30 hours, Uttar Pradesh police registered an FIR against Congress general secretary and in charge of Uttar Pradesh Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other leaders for violating section 144 of the CrPC.
Police sources here on Tuesday said that FIR has been registered against Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Rajya Sabha Member Deependra Hooda and UP Congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu along with 11 others under section 151, 107 and 116 of the IPC.
Section 151 is for assembly of five or more persons by violating section 144 and punishment can be up to six months. Section 107 is enforced when an Executive Magistrate receives information that any person is likely to commit a breach of the peace or disturb the public tranquillity or to do any wrongful act that may probably occasion a breach of the peace or disturb the public tranquillity and is of opinion that there is sufficient ground for it. Similarly section 116 relates to preventing a government official from performing his duties.
Since Monday night, Congress leaders and even Priyanka were questioning the UP government about the illegal detention for the past 24 hours. Priyanka even asked PM Narendra Modi through a video that why she has been detained without any FIR.
Priyanka was detained at Hargaon in Sitapur at around 0545 hours in the morning of Monday when she was going towards Lakhimpur Kheri to meet the family members of the farmers killed in the violence on Sunday.
Priyanka along with other leaders have been kept in the PAC guest house in Sitapur.
Sources said police will produce Priyanka and other Congress before a magistrate very soon.
The Congress leaders are likely to get bail by furnishing bonds.
