Odisha: The Special CBI Court in Bhopal has sentenced five persons, including three candidates, one impersonator and one middleman in Vyapam cases, to seven years Rigorous Imprisonment and fine of Rs 8000 each.
According to a statement issued by the national agency on Monday, the Special Judge, CBI in Vyapam cases in Bhopal sentenced Kedar Nath Tyagi, Dheeraj Kumar Duneriya, Devesh Kumar Tyagi, Chandra Bhushan Mourya and Satish Jatav to RI in a case related to the Madhya Pradesh Police Constable Recruitment Test-2012 conducted by Vyapam.
In August 2013, the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government constituted a Special Task Force to probe the scam. On July 9, 2015, the Supreme Court had transferred all criminal and death cases linked to the Vyapam scam to the Central Bureau of Investigation. CBI had registered case on August 5, 2015, after taking over the investigation from the Special Task Force in Bhopal. The state police had earlier filed two charge sheets in the scam.
The case was related to the allegations of impersonation and cheating in 13 different examinations conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board or Vyapam, for recruitment to government jobs and admissions to educational institutions in the state in 2012, said the statement.
After investigation, CBI filed a supplementary charge sheet against 11 accused, including candidates, middlemen and impersonators. The Trial Court had found five accused guilty and acquitted other five. One accused expired during the trial and charges against him were abated, it added.
