Teeth Chattering Cold Wave Sweeps Odisha
Bhubaneswar, Dec 23: As Odisha reeled under a severe cold wave condition, the capital city Bhubaneswar set a record by registering a minimum temperature of 10 degree Celsius twice in the last three days.
The capital city earlier on December 21 last recorded a minimum temperature of 10 degree Celsius and repeated it on Thursday.
The IMD sources here said 10 degree Celsius is the third lowest night temperature recorded in the capital city in the month of December during the last 11 years from 2011 to 2020.
Bhubaneswar recorded a minimum temperature of 8.2 degree Celsius on December 30,2018 and 9.8 degree Celsius on December 31,2019.
As many as 15 places in Odisha registered night temperature 10 degree Celsius or below .Phulbani is the coldest place in the state with the night temperature of 5 degree Celsius.
Daringbadi in Kandhamal registered a minimum temperature of 6.5 degree Celsius followed by Jharsuguda (7.1), Titilagarh ((7.3) Sundergarh (7.5) Keonjhar (7.6), Rayagada, Bhawanipatna (8 each), Bolangir (9) Koraput , Sambalpur (9.5 each) Boudh (9.6) Bhubaneswar, Angul and Nayagarh (10 degree Celsius each).
The weather office predicted that gradually the minimum temperature is likely to increase by 2-4 degree Celsius during next two days and no large change thereafter over the districts of Odisha.
However, the MET department has issued a yellow warning for seven districts—Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Baragarha, Bolangir and Nuapada for Friday.
