Security personnel deployed before the state assembly had overpowered Dushyanta after he tried to commit suicide before the Assemby on Wednesday and rushed him first to Capital hospital but later he was taen to SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack.
The youth had stated that he was admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital Cuttack after he met with an accident in March 2020 and sustained injuries on his left leg.
He said he underwent surgery twice— first on March 23, 2020 and later on June 19, 2020. The doctors allegedly discharged him from the hospital on July 15, 2020 citing covid pandemic.
The youth said he visited the SCB Medical College and hospital again after his health condition deteriorated but was denied admission. He approached many officials, including the Jagatsinghpur district Collector, but failed to get any assistance.
In February last the youth went to a private hospital after he came to know that he could avail treatment up to Rs 5 lakh under the BSKY scheme but the private hospital asked him to bring written consent from the government officials concerned for the purpose.
Since then he and his mother had unsuccessfully approached many government officials and ran from pillar to post to get the consent but in vain .
Despite repeated appeals the youth said he was not given proper treatment and the date for his plastic surgery was postponed on the plea of covid pandemic.
Frustrated over the delay in the treatment and finding no alternative,he decided to commit suicide before the state assembly during the ongoing monsoon session.
His tragic death was figured in the state Assembly today and Opposition Chief Whip Mohan Majhi blamed the government.
Mr Majhi said the BSKY of the state government has failed and people are being deprived of the medical treatment under the scheme.
He said even though the Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare directed to provide him treatment, treatment was not given to him.
SCB Medical College and Hospital Emergency Officer Bhubananda Maharana, however, denied the allegation and claimed that all best possible treatments were given to the youth .
Mr.Maharana said such kind of treatment takes time and the youth should have had some patience. He however, said an inquiry would be made into the incident.
