Bhubaneswar : Odisha witnessed a dip of a new daily covid load of below 1000 mark for the second occasions during the last four months as 868 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours taking the total tally in the state to 9,95,433.
Earlier, on August 8 last, Odisha reported daily covid load of 886 new cases.
Health and Family Welfare department sources said 507 covid positive cases from the quarantine centres and 361 local contact cases were reported from 30 districts in the state in the past 24 hours.
Khordha district recorded the highest number of 246 covid cases while Cuttack districts reported 154 cases. These two coastal districts together accounted for 47.23 per cent of the total daily covid load recorded in the state in the past 24 hours.
During the period,66 more people succumbed to the virus taking the total fatalities in the state to 6953 while with the recovery of 1043 people on Sunday, the recovery surged to 9,78,240.
Sambalpur district in Western Odisha registered the highest number of 12 deaths in the past 24 hours followed by Cuttack ( 8), Angul ( 7) and five each in Balasore and Dhenkanal districts.
The active cases further declined to 10,187 of which Khordha district reported 3638 cases and 1356 in the Cuttack district. These two districts alone accounted for 49.62 per cent of the total active cases in the state.
The daily test positivity rate (TPR) in the state was further reduced to 1.39 per cent. Odisha, however, has been witnessing the TPR below 2 percent for the last eight days consecutively.
Khordha district reported the highest TPR of 4.2 per cent while as many as 20 districts have recorded TPR of less than one per cent.
