Youth Arrested For Duping Lakhs From Job Aspirants In Odisha’s Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Commissionerate Police arrested a fraudster in Bhubaneswar for allegedly duping around 25 lakh from different people by promising them jobs.

Debabrata Palai, a resident of Mayurbhanj’s Rairangpur block’s Krushnapur village, has been named as the accused.

Palai conned job seekers by launching a consulting firm in Bhubaneswar’s Hanspal area. However, he was detained after a job applicant filed a complaint against him, accusing Palai of defrauding the system.

Sources said, Palai used to live a lavish life by spending the money duped from the job aspirants. He reportedly duped Rs 13 lakh from three persons. He even managed to take Rs 50,000 from a girl by promising her a job in a hospital.

Rajkishore Pradhan, a complainant said, “He took Rs 3.5 lakh from me promising to provide a job to my son. When I could not find my son’s name in the qualifying list, I asked him to return my money. But he delayed by giving excuses and never returned it. So finally I was forced to come to the police station to lodge a complaint.”

The police have launched a probe after arresting Palai to ascertain the involvement of other persons in his crime.

Following Palai’s arrest, the police opened an investigation to determine whether any other people were also victims of his crime.
