In an unfortunate incident a newly-wed man was killed after being cut by kite string in Odisha’s Cuttack on Sunday. Reportedly, one person identified as Jayanta and his wife were driving a motorcycle to his in-law’s in Cuttack when a kite string coiled around his neck and slit his throat.
In yet another instance, another person identified as Bhanjabihari Patra sustained critical injuries after being hit by a kite string near the Bada Danda in Puri last night while he was enroute medicine shop.
He was admitted to the district headquarters hospital for treatment. His condition is reported to be stable now.
Despite a ban by the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on the use of manja and other synthetic threads in flying kites, how a hanging thread from a kite claimed the life of a youth in the Millennium City is worth pondering.
