Daily Covid Load In Odisha Remains Below 200 Mark, 123 New Cases In Past 24 Hours

Bhubaneswar, Dec 27: The daily covid load in Odisha continued to remain below 200 mark for over last fortnight. Health and Family Welfare department sources said 123 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours from 17 districts taking the tally in the state to 10,54,004. The new cases included 17 in the age group of 0 to18 years.As many as 72 cases were reported from the quarantine centres and 51 as local contact cases.

Khordha district registered the highest number of 53 cases followed by Sambalpur(19) and Cuttack (10). These three districts together accounted for 66.6 percent of the total new cases in the state .

Sources said no covid cases were reported from 13 districts in the past 24 hours while 14 districts recorded single digit covid positive cases. Only one covid death was recorded in the health audit pushing the total fatalities in the state to 8453 while the covid active cases have further declined to 1572.The recoveries surged to 10,43,926 as 144 more covid patients were cured from the virus on Sunday.

For the first time the Test Positivity Rate(TPR) in all the 30 districts in Odisha recorded less than one percent. As many as 14 districts however, recorded zero test positivity rate.

According to Director Health and family Welfare Dr. Bijaya Panigrahi about 25.53 lakh children in the age group of 15- 18 years have been identified to be vaccinated from January 3. If necessary, the government, will open vaccination centres in schools and colleges to administer vaccines to them, he added.

He said so far about 29 lakh people have not taken the first dose of the vaccine while over 30 lakh people are yet to administer the second dose vaccination. Over seven lakh health workers and covid warriors and 52.37 lakh people above the age group of 60 years have to be administered with the booster dose. Presently vaccination is going on in over 2000 centres across the state and eight mobile teams have been deployed in each of the 314 blocks in the state for vaccination.
