BJP members stage walkout in Odisha Assembly for not being treated as main opposition party
Bhubaneswar : Opposition BJP members today staged a noisy walkout during the zero hour in Odisha Assembly and later sat on dharna for not being treated as the main opposition party.
The problem arose when Opposition Chief Whip Mohan Majhi raised the issue of large scale irregularities in the allotment of houses to the poor under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in the state.
He also requested Speaker S N Patro to give him some more time as it is an important issue and he is speaking on behalf of the Leader of Opposition, who is now under treatment for post covid complications at the AIIMS, Bhubaneswar.
But the Speaker repeatedly pressed the bell asking Mr Majhi to conclude so that the adjournment motion could be taken up.
Peeved over the Speaker’s direction the BJP members walked out in protest and sat on a dharna in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue inside the Assembly premises.
The BJP members however later participated in the debate on the adjournment motion on corruption in the Odisha Staff Selection Commission office moved by the Congress.
