Auto-driver Turned Child Pornography Racketeer
Bhubaneswar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested Surendra Nayak, from Colony Sahi of Dhenkanal who was suspected to be involved with pan-India racket for providing Child Sexual Exploitation Material (CSEM).
CBI officials said that Nayak has been arrested for sharing and circulating sexual content and child exploitation case which was posted on various social media platforms for monetary gains. The raids of CBI, started on Tuesday, were carried out in Bhadrak, Jajpur and Dhenkanal of Odisha and FIRs lodged against two— Manoranjan Das from Binayakpur in Bhadrak’s Agarpada and Anil Majhi from Masudpur, Jajpur Road.
Nayak’s arrest comes a day after a CBI team, which had gone to the former’s residence at Colony Sahi in Dhenkanal for questioning and to their surprise were attacked by neighbors who were allegedly irked by rapid questioning session. Later the villagers said the man came to the village about 5 years back and was riding a tempo to earn a living. The villagers even added that they were shocked to learn about the man’s involvement in child pornography case as he did not have any bad habits like alcohol or even chewing betel(paan). He had reportedly stayed in a foreign land before coming to settle in the village. He is also married and has children, few of the villagers stated.
The CBI has registered 23 separate cases against 83 people on charges of online child sexual abuse and exploitation across 14 states including Odisha at various locations. Several electronic gadgets, mobiles, laptops etc. were seized during the raids. It is revealed that some individuals were involved in trading of CSEM material, the CBI said. On Tuesday, Nayak even had admitted to have created a group where he used to share links of adult contents. The links were shared on mobile phones and other social media platforms from where he used to make money.
“It was only two months that I joined the group after coming across a link on the internet. I was only sharing the links of adult contents from one website to other sites and groups” Nayak confessed before media officials yesterday.
