President to read Preamble on Constitution Day, citizens urged to join
New Delhi, Nov 23: In an attempt to spread awareness about the Constitution and its values, President Ram Nath Kovind will read out the Preamble of the Constitution at an event in the historic Central Hall of Parliament on Constitution Day.
On Constitution Day, which is on November 26, celebrations would be held in the Central Hall of Parliament, which will be organised by the Lok Sabha secretariat, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi announced on Tuesday. A quiz competition will also be held for citizens online.
“As a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav we are celebrating Constitution Day. A function will be organised in the Central Hall by the Lok Sabha Speaker and Secretary,” Joshi said.
“On November 26, there will be a function where the President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Lok Sabha Speaker and others will participate. The President will read the preamble of the Constitution… I appeal to all citizens to read the preamble along with the President and try to understand it. After reading, upload the video on your social media accounts,” the Minister said, adding that a certificate would be given to citizens who participate.
The event will start at 11 am, and would be broadcast live. Citizens have been urged to join him, and upload their videos on social media.
He said the event is “apolitical” and is aimed at making people aware of the Constitution, its history, and the role played by BR Ambedkar and others.
The Minister said to ensure ‘Jan Bhagidari’, the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has developed two portals – one for “Online Reading of the Preamble to the Constitution” in 23 languages (22 official languages and English), mpa.nic.in/constitution-day, which will be operational for use from November 26.
The second portal, mpa.nic.in/constitution-day, is for the online quiz.
He also said that a frame for the Preamble of Constitution has been designed by Padma Shri awardee Jai Prakash Lekhiwal. Elements of art of all states and UTs have been included in the frame.
The registration for the quiz competition would be through phone numbers, and more than one registration can be done from the same number.
“Reading of preamble and online quiz will make the younger generation aware of the constitution. Basic principles of the Constitution every citizen can understand. This is the intention of the Prime Minister… It is to make people understand the Constitution. How it was debated, discussed, how Babasaheb Ambedkar framed it…” Joshi said.
Joshi was accompanied by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V. Muraleedharan and Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan.
