President, Other Leaders Greet People Of Goa On 61st Liberation Day
New Delhi, Dec 19: President Ram Nath Kovind and other leaders across the country on Sunday wished the people of Goa on the 61st Liberation day and paid homage to the freedom fighters for liberating it from colonial rule. In a message on Twitter, President Kovind said India salutes the exemplary courage and valour of the armed forces.
“On Goa Liberation Day, the nation pays homage to the martyrs and freedom fighters, who fought to liberate Goa from colonial rule. We also salute the exemplary courage & valour of our armed forces. I will forever cherish the memories of Goa@60 celebrations I attended last year,” he said.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid homage to the people of Goa and said, “We will remain indebted for their supreme sacrifices of our great freedom fighters.
“I bow to the valour, courage and tireless efforts of our great freedom fighters, who fought to liberate Goa from colonial rule. We will always remain indebted for their supreme sacrifices. Greetings to the sisters and brothers of Goa on this special day,” he tweeted.
BJP President JP Nadda, in his message said, “On Goa Liberation Day, I extend my wishes to sisters and brothers of Goa. Paying my tributes to the heroes who sacrificed their lives to liberate the state. May the state continue to scale new heights under @DrPramodPSawant Ji’s leadership.”
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also saluted the soldiers for their contribution in the liberation of Goa. In a tweet he said, “My wishes to the people of Goa on their Liberation Day. We salute the soldiers and martyrs who defeated the Portuguese during Operation Vijay (1961) to set Goa free.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Goa on Sunday to attend Goa Liberation Day celebrations at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium in Goa’s Taleigao at around 3 pm, said the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). As per the PMO, the Prime Minister will felicitate the freedom fighters and veterans of ‘Operation Vijay’ at the function. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth over Rs 650 crore in Goa.
Saluting the sacrifice made by the freedom fighters, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, “Let us pledge to usher in a New Dawn for our beautiful state and honour their sacrifice.
“Greetings to all my Goan brothers and sisters on the 61st Liberation Day. I salute the supreme sacrifice of all our freedom fighters. On this momentous occasion, come let us pledge to usher in a New Dawn for our beautiful state and honour their sacrifice,” she tweeted.
“On this historic 61st Liberation Day, my best wishes to the people of Goa. Salute to all the people who made heroic sacrifices to liberate Goa from colonial tyranny. It’s time to liberate Goa from corrupt politics,” Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted.
Goa Liberation Day is celebrated on December 19 every year to mark the success of ‘Operation Vijay’ undertaken by the Indian Armed Forces that liberated Goa from the Portuguese rule.
