Mah: Road contractors to be prosecuted for deaths caused by potholes: DCP Chavan
Thane : The Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone-II Bhiwandi Yogesh Chavan on Thursday warned that the road contractors will be prosecuted for deaths caused by pothole.
The presence of numerous potholes on the Kasheli to Anjurphata, Bhiwandi and Mankoli to Kharbaon road has led to numerous accidents and deaths, said an official release by the Sr PI of the Narpoli police station Maloji Shinde on Thursday.
The press release said that the DCP convened a meeting of the concerned government officials, political leaders to discuss the issue thread bear.
In the meeting the issue was discussed in detail after which the DCP issued his warning.
He said that he would soon meet the Guardian Minister and the concerned ministers in connection with the poor condition of the these roads and ensure a solution to the problem including repairs to the roads. Likewise if any accident takes place on these roads due to potholes, offences will be registered against the concerned road contractor who repaired the road.
The Executive Engineer, PWD, Anita Pardeshi told the meeting that the potholes are being filled on a daily basis. She said that a proposal has been sent to the government for cementing of the road, along with stopping of collection on these roads, a decision on which is likely in the next 15 days. She pointed out that the residents on the side of the road throw garbage next to the road which chokes the gutter and hence the concerned gram panchayats should be instructed to warn the citizens against this. Since the work on the Metro V is underway, the road by its the side is in a bad shape and the metro officials should be asked to repair the road she said. In some villages the storm water drain is not working properly for which the gram panchayat should be directed for proper disposal she said.
The Bhiwandi tehsildar Adik Patil, asked the PWD officials to take up the issue of the poor road conditions at the highest level and get them resolved. He also appealed to the citizens to support the administrative work and maintain law and order.
The SDO Balasaheb Wakchoure told the meeting that the suggestions of the leaders and elected representatives has been taken and would ensure that the roads are repaired on priority.
