New Delhi, Nov 26 : As the threat of COVID-19 variant detected in Africa emerged, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Friday urged the experts to suggest Delhi Disaster Management Authority with measures to tackle it.
“In view of the threat from the new COVID variant from African countries, we have requested experts to make a presentation to DDMA on Monday and suggest what steps we should take (sic),” the chief minister said.
“We will take all the steps necessary to protect you and your family,” he added.
A day ago, the Centre also reiterated to strengthen the screening, testing and tracking of all international passengers in view of the new variant of COVID-19, B.1.1.529, which emerged in three countries.
According to reports, the variant emerged in Botswana (3 cases), South Africa (6 cases) and Honk Kong (1 case).
The warning bell by the Centre was rung since the news of the new variant emerged, with significantly high mutations and has led to serious public health implications in the countries where it has been reported.
“lt is therefore imperative that all international travellers travelling from and transiting through these countries, (they are part of the “at-risk” Country Category of international travellers coming to India) and also including all other ‘at risk’ countries indicated in the revised guidelines for international Arrivals issued by this Ministry dated 11.11.2021, are subjected to rigorous screening and testing,” the Union Health Ministry stated.
