Heat Wave: Odisha govt prepones summer vacation by three weeks from April 21

BHUBANESWAR: Due to the unabated heatwave conditions across Odisha, the state government on Thursday announced preponing of the summer vacation from April 21.
Though the official notification about the same is yet to be issued, the 5T secretary and private secretary to chief minister V K Pandian posted this in a social media platform. The summer vacation was scheduled to begin in the state from May 5.

“In view of prevailing heatwave conditions, HCM @naveen_odisha directs to prepone the summer vacation for all schools for classes upto standard 12 (government, private and aided) from tomorrow (April 21st) The concerned departments will decide on date of reopening in due course. Detailed press release soon,” the Instagram post said.
The summer became oppressive across Odisha in the last two weeks while 30 places recorded maximum temperature above 40 degree Celsius on Wednesday. Baripada became the hottest place in the state, recording 44.5 degree Celsius on Wednesday.

In view of the rising temperature the state government had declared closure of schools from April 12 to 16. After reopening on April 17 and 18, the schools were again closed for April 19 and 20. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow warning for heatwave across the state till April 22 after which temperature may drop slightly.
