Meerut: Urging political parties not to use his name or photos in posters for election campaigns, the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait claimed that he would not contest any elections.
“I’m not going to contest any election, and no political party should use my name or photo in their posters,” stated Tikait.
After bringing an end to a one-year-long farmer’s protest, Tikait finally left for his home on Wednesday. He has received a warm welcome from the farmers in Meerut upon his return from Delhi.
On December 9, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, the umbrella body under which the farmers had jointly announced the suspension of their year-long agitation after they received a letter from the Central government, with assurances of creating a panel on Minimum Support Price (MSP) and quick withdrawal of cases against farmers.
As per sources, the farmers will hold a review meeting on January 15, 2022. “If the government does not meet its commitments, we could continue our agitation,” the SKM stated in its statement.
On Wednesday, the last batch of protesting farmers left the Ghazipur site towards their respective homes.
