Flood situation continues to remain grim in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow : The flood situation in Uttar Pradesh continued to remain grim, as per reports received from several district of the state on Thursday.

According to State’s Relief Commission office here, around 605 villages in 24 districts of the state are affected by the floods. Out of these 110 villages have been cut off due to floods, while 20 villages are totally marooned.

Apart from these, waterlogging has affected population in 107 villages, agriculture in 239 villages and both life and agriculture in 129 villages.

River Ganga is flowing above the danger mark at Kachlabridge, Badaun, Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Ghazipur and Ballia and Yamuna river at Auraiya, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Banda and Prayagraj.

Betwa river was above danger level at Hamirpur, Sharda river at Paliyakalan in Kheri, Kwano river at Chandradeepghat in Gonda and Chambal river are also flowing above the danger level at different places.

Relief Commissioner Ranveer Prasad said that all the embankments of the state are safe. “940 shelters homes have been set up in the state for the people affected by the floods. A total of 1125 flood posts have been set up to monitor the flood situation. Besides 1463 boats have been deployed for relief and rescue operations along with 504 medical teams that are working in the flood affected areas,” Mr Prasad informed.

So far 536 people have been shifted to a safe place and 59 teams have been deployed for rescue operations in 43 districts of the state. NDRF has been deployed in nine districts, SDRF in 11 districts and PAC in 39 districts.

The floods in the Ganga in Purvanchal region in Mirzapur, Bhadohi, Varanasi, Ballia ,Ghazipur and Chandauli, has risen the water level of its tributaries like Gomti, Varuna, Sai etc. and thus are creating more problems for the people residing near these rivers.

At the same time, the havoc of Yamuna continues in the districts of Banda and Orai.

According to the report released by the Central Water Commission, the water level of Ganga in Varanasi has been rising at the rate of one Centimeter per hour for the past two days.

The water level of the Ganga in Ghazipur seems desperate to break the 2019 record of 64.530. Many villages of Sewrai tehsil in Ghazipur have been flooded due to the rise of water level of Karmanasha river.

The Karelwa embankment near Mubarakpur village of Chakia area of ​​Chandauli breached due to incessant rain on Wednesday night. The pressure of the Ganges remains on the BST dam connecting to NH-31 in Ballia. In Mirzapur, where the Ganges is continuously increasing. Traffic was disrupted due to water flowing over the stretch of the Halia-Lalganj road Kota Ghat Belan river.

In Sangam city of Prayagraj, Ganga and Yamuna continued to scare the people. Their water level was more than one meter above the danger mark. Apart from the city, about five lakh people in rural areas are affected by the floods.

Out of eight tehsils of the Prayagraj district, seven tehsils are flood affected. Around 4,000 people have taken shelter in flood relief camps. Due to the flood, famous Lord Hanuman lying in the Hanuman temple at Bandh continued to be inundated for the past one week. Yamuna is flowing two and a half meters above the danger mark in Banda.

According to flood control department officials, 93,911 cusecs of water has been released into Ganga from Narora Dam. Due to this, the water level of Ramganga has increased by 25 cm to 134.30 meters. The water level of Yamuna has started decreasing in Etawah, Hamirpur, Kanpur countryside. Due to this, flood water has receded from many areas. People have started returning to their homes, destroyed by the floods.

The flood affected districts in UP are Hamirpur, Banda, Etawah, Jalaun, Varanasi, Kaushambi, Chandauli, Ghazipur, Auraiya, Kanpur Dehat, Prayagraj, Farrukhabad, Agra, Ballia, Mirzapur, Gorakhpur, Sitapur, Mau, Kheri, Shahjahanpur, Bahraich, Gonda, Kanpur Nagar and Fatehpur.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday evening spoke to Varanasi District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma to get a detail information about the flood situation in his parliamentary constituency.

The Prime Minister has asked the authorities to step up the relief and rescue works in Varanasi and other flood affected areas.
