Farmer protest in Punjab hits train services to Jammu
Jammu : Nearly a dozen trains for Jammu Tawi Railway Station were cancelled on Saturday due to farmer protest in the neighbouring state of Punjab, an official here said.
Farmers, who are seeking a hike in sugarcane prices on Friday blocked rail tracks and a national highway in Jalandhar.
“The protest continued for the second day on Saturday, impacting movement of trains and vehicular traffic,” an official here said.
He said that as many as 12 trains have been cancelled, adding, “no train have arrived since last night and also none departed from Jammu Tawi Railway Station.”
“Jhelum Express will depart late night on its scheduled time,” said an official adding that Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) between Pathankot-Udhampur are operating smoothly.
