Cyclone Jawad: Leaves Cancelled In These Districts, Strict Guidelines Issued
Bhubaneswar: The administrations of Khordha and Koraput district have stepped up for the preparations following the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) caution over the cyclonic storm alert that is expected to reach north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts around December 4.
The Khordha district administration has cancelled the leaves of all the district employees from December 3 to 5 in view of the heavy rainfall alert in the district for the next two days. The Khordha district Collector also convened a preparatory meet with the Tehsildars and Block Development Officers (BDOs) to discuss the preparations in view of the Cyclone Jawad.
“We have kept a close eye on three blocks–Tangi, Chilika and Banapur of the district as these places are near the sea. The district administration is ready to tackle any emergency situation. The leaves of all the employees have been cancelled from December 3 to 5,”said Khordha Collector, Sangram Mohapatra.
Similarly, the Koraput district administration has also cancelled the leaves of all the government officials in the district with immediate effect till December 5. “As per the latest bulletin received from IMD, a Cyclonic Storm ‘Jawad’ will cross the coasts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh by December 4, 2021. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur in few places in Koraput district,” said Koraput District Collector, Abdaal M Akhtar.
“In view of the above, all the leaves of government officials of Koraput district are hereby cancelled and they are directed to report back to their respective headquarters immediately. All the officers and staff should not leave headquarters for three days from December 3 to 5. Any deviation will be viewed seriously,” warned the Collector.
Meanwhile, the depression formed over the south-east Bay of Bengal yesterday has intensified into Deep Depression over west central adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal on Friday morning, said the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar today. It is very likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours and reach north Andhra and Odisha coast by tomorrow morning, added the Met Centre.
