Cabinet approves Rs 4,445 crore mega textile park scheme PM MITRA
New Delhi : In yet another scheme to boost textile sector, the Union cabinet on Wednesday approved setting up of 7 Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks with a total outlay of Rs 4,445 crore in a period of 5 years.
The proposed mega parks will be setup at greenfield and brownfield sites located in different states.
Proposals of state governments having ready availability of contiguous and encumbrance-free land parcel of 1,000 plus acres along with other textiles related facilities and ecosystem would be considered under PM MITRA scheme.
Several states such as Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Assam, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana have expressed interest.
Briefing media on the cabinet decision, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that PM MITRA would offer an opportunity to create an integrated textiles value chain right from spinning, weaving, processing, dyeing and printing to garment manufacturing at one location.
Goyal said that integrated textile value chain at one location will reduce logistics cost of industry. The proposed scheme would generate 1 lakh direct and two lakh indirect employment per park.
The Minister said that the government had already taken six key decisions to support the textile sector and the PM MITRA is the seventh one which together will make India competitive globally.
