Birth anniv of King Rajendra Chola-1 to be celebrated as govt event : Stalin
Chennai : The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Wednesday announced that the birth anniversary of Chola king Rajendra Chola-1 will be celebrated as a government function from next year. The birth anniversary of Rajendra Chola, one of the greatest emperors of the Chola dynasty, is celebrated on Tamil star Tiruvathirai day in the auspicious Tamil month of Aadi.
Since this year the Aadi Thiruvathirai day is over, the event would be celebrated as a government event from next year onwards at the famous Lord Brahadeeswarar Temple in Ariyalur by the Tourism, Culture and HR and CE departments, an official release said. The 11th century Chola king had relocated the Chola’s capital to Gangaikonda Cholapuram in Ariyalur district where he built the Peruvudaiyar temple, also called as Brahadeeswarar Temple, which was recognised as one of the world heritage sites by UNESCO.
The temple, constructed more than 1,000 years ago, has been attracting a large number of tourists from across the world to see the cultural splendour and its marvel.
