New Delhi : After the passage of two Bills–The Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India (Amendment) Bill, 2021 and The Inland Vessels Bill, 2021 by voice vote without discussion, proceedings of the Lok Sabha were adjourned for the day on Thursday amid ruckus by the Opposition over various issues, including Pegasus snooping row and new farm laws.
Upon reassembling after the third adjournment at 1400 hrs, the Opposition Members, carrying placards, entered the Well of the House and started sloganeering over the issues.
Kirit Solanki, who was in the Chair, made repeated requests to the Opposition members to return to their seats and allow the House to function.
Amid din, The Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India (Amendment) Bill, 2021 and The Inland Vessels Bill, 2021 were passed by voice vote and without discussion.
As the ruckus continued unabated, Dr Solanki adjourned the House for the day after the passage of the two Bills.
Earlier also, the proceedings were adjourned three times over the same issues.
Upon reassembling after the second adjournment at 1230 hrs, the Opposition Members, carrying placards, entered the Well of the House and started sloganeering. Rajendra Agarwal, who was in the Chair, made repeated requests to the agitating members to return to their seats. When it went in vain, he adjourned the House till 1400 hrs.
As the House reassembled after the first adjournment at 1130 hrs, the Opposition Members, carrying placards, entered the Well and raising slogans.
Amid chaos, the papers were laid on the table of the House after the conclusion of the Question Hour.
Mr Agarwal, who was in the Chair, then announced the starting of the Zero Hour and made repeated requests to the agitating members to return to their seats.
As the ruckus continued unabated, Mr Agarwal adjourned the House till 1230 hrs.
Earlier in the day, Om Birla expressed displeasure over the incident of throwing of papers by some Opposition Members at the Chair yesterday.
Soon after the House assembled for the day, Mr Birla said he was ‘hurt’ by yesterday’s incident in the House and that the action was against parliamentary democracy.
He said the members should try to find a solution together so that the dignity of Parliament is maintained.
Mr Birla said that what is not in accordance with the parliamentary tradition should not be repeated or else he will be forced to take action.
Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, ‘Government is not allowing us to express our views in the House’.
At this, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi intervened and asked him to speak on yesterday’s incident.
This led to an argument between the ruling party and the Opposition, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House till 1130 hrs.
Since the start of the Monsoon session, the Opposition members have been protesting over various issues, including the Pegasus snooping row and new farm laws.
