UK: Tories lost their safe seat after “nearly 200 years”

London, Dec 17: The Conservatives lost the historically safe North Shropshire seat to the Liberal Democrats after holding on to it for nearly 200 years, BBC reported on Friday.
The by-election was held after the resignation of former MP Owen Paterson who was found to have breached parliamentary rules on lobbying, and had held a majority of nearly 23,000.
The winner Helen Morgan secured 17, 957 votes with a turnout of 46.3 per cent.
After he victory Ms Morgan said it meant the “party was over” for Boris Johnson.
