Taliban warns of consequences if US does not stop invading Afghan airspace with drones
Kabul : The Taliban on Wednesday warned the US of “negative consequences” if it did not stop “invading” Afghan airspace with drones.
Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid put out a statement on Twitter, that read:
“The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan as the sole legal entity of Afghanistan is the custodian of Afghanistan’s land and air space.
“We recently saw the US violating all international rights, law and US’ commitments to the Islamic Emirate (Taliban) in Doha, Qatar, as Afghanistan’s sacred airspace is being invaded by US drones.”
“These violations must be rectified and prevented.”
“We call on all countries, especially United States, to treat Afghanistan in light of international rights, laws and commitments, and considering mutual respect and commitments, in order to prevent any negative consequences.”
The US has carried out two drone strikes in Afghanistan to target the Islamic State-Khorasan group which was responsible for the deadly Kabul airport suicide attack of August 26, that killed 200 people, including 13 US troops.
However, one of the drone strikes, on August 29, killed 10 civilians, including seven children, inviting outrage.
The US military apologised for the incident, terming it a tragic mistake.
