Pakistan Man Gets Death Sentence For Blasphemy
Islamabad, Dec 24: A 42-year-old man in Pakistan has been convicted, for committing blasphemy in a video, and awarded a death sentence along with a fine of 100,000 Pakistani rupees, media reported.
Mohammad Tahir Aurangzeb, Additional district and sessions’ judge, has convicted Bashir Mastan, a resident of Charsadda, under section 295-C (derogatory remarks in respect of the Holy Prophet) of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).The judge also sentenced him to death but ordered that the sentence should not be executed unless confirmed by the Peshawar High Court, Dawn reported.
The accused was also convicted under section 298 (uttering words to wound religious feelings) of PPC and sentenced for two year rigorous imprisonment. The FIR was registered at Inqilab police station in Peshawar on September 7, 2020.
In the FIR, the Station House Officer (SHO) said the suspect could be seen in a video making a claim of him being a prophet. The video had gone viral later resulting a public outcry.
