New Delhi July 12 : Indian Council for Cultural Relations(ICCR) and University of Delhi have started a new phase in their shared cultural collaboration by establishing a ‘Bangabandhu Chair’, a direct outcome of PM Modi’s Bangladesh visit earlier this year.
The Bangabandhu Chair will focus on having a better understanding of Bangladesh which happens to be one of our most important neighbours. This step would reinforce collaboration between the two countries in the fields of art, culture and academics.
“we would be doing a lot but we wanted to start with an important country and what could be more important than Bangladesh particularly this year when we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of independence Bangladesh, 50th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations, and the hundred birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.” said Dinesh K Patnaik, Director General of ICCR.
“We will work closely with the ICCR and Delhi University to ensure that all sides are satisfied with the selection of candidates that we hope to find” said Vikram Doraiswami, the High Commissioner of India in Dhaka.
“it is a historical moment to host this first Bangabandhu chair, who was an ideal Hero to all of us and was a symbol of liberty, democracy and freedom” said Prof PC Joshi, the Acting VC, University of Delhi.
A Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) was signed between the two institutions, the agreement would be valid for five academic years.
