India reports 25,166 new COVID-19 cases, 437 deaths
New Delhi : India recorded 25,166 fresh COVID-19 cases, the lowest count in 154 days, and 437 deaths in the last 24 hours, Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday.
According to the ministry’s data, the total active cases of COVID-19 in the country stand at 3,69,846, which is the lowest count in 146 days.
In the same time frame, the country saw a total of 36,830 discharges, taking the total number of recoveries to 3,14,48,754, which makes 97.51 per cent of the total cases.
The total death toll in the country is now at 4,32,079.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 49,66,29,524 samples have been tested up to August 16 for COVID-19. Of these, 15,63,985 samples were tested on Monday.
On the vaccination front, over 88 lakh vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours. The cumulative COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country have exceeded 55.47 crores, the Union Health Ministry said, adding that the total vaccination in India now stands at 55,47,30,609.
Meanwhile, a team of doctors have said also said there is no way of predicting if it would be Delta or any of its 13 sub-lineages till date that would cause the third wave, but studies across the globe show that none of the Deltas can completely escape Covid antibodies—both natural (after an infection) and vaccine prompted. So, the urgent priority is to vaccinate the entire population, it said.
