Film actor, director Chandrakant Joshi passes away in Kolhapur
Kolhapur, Dec 20 : Marathi and Hindi film director, actor and art director Chandrakant Dattatry Joshi passed away on Monday at a private hospital here following a brief illness.
He was 77, and is survived by three sons including Marathi film and TV actor Rishikesh Joshi and a daughter.
Joshi was hospitalised in unconscious state with high blood pressure two days ago and was in coma, where he passed away this afternoon during the medical treatment.
He was an art teacher for 40 years before making his foray into the tinsel world.
Joshi had directed a Hindi film ‘Sutradhar’, starring Smita Patil and Nana Patrkar, which was selected for Indian Panorama section and three Marathi films — ‘Takkar’ with Dr Shree Ram Lagu and Neelu Phule, ‘Nirmala Machineries Kambli’ and ‘Jagjanani Shree Mahalaxmi’ with Suman, Milind Gunaji, Sachin Khedkar and Rahul Solapurkar.
He had also acted in a Marathi TV serial, ‘Jeevan Sandhya’, for which he was honoured with Maharashtra Times best actor award in 2002, Baliram Bidkar award and best teacher of Zilla Parishad in 1980.
He was the president of Kalamaharshi Baburao Painter Film Society and Bhaliji Pendharkar Cultural Centre as well as coordinator of 3rd Eye Asian Film Festival.
