Two killed, 3 injured in separate road mishaps

At least two persons were killed while three others have been left with severe injuries in separate road mishaps in the State on the wee hours of Sunday.

In the first incident reported from Khordha, one person died and three others sustained critical injuries after a pickup van they were travelling was hit by a truck on National Highway-16 near Gaurachandrapur Chhak on Tangi-Chandpur road early this morning. The deceased has been identified as Kalia Tada, a resident of Kukudajhari village under Chandpur police station limits.

The incident took place when the five workers on the pick-up were on their way to work in Balugaon. The injured trio was rushed to Chandpur community health centre (CHC).

Later, irate locals later staged a road blockade by burning tyres demanding compensation for the family of the deceased. Later, police reached the spot and began an inquiry.

In a separate incident, one person died on the spot after a speeding passenger bus hit his motorcycle at Madapada on Brahmagiri-Delanga road under Brahmagiri police station limits in Puri district today.

The deceased has been identified as Kamal Samantaray.

As per sources, Kamal was heading to Brahmagiri when the passenger bus, which was coming from opposite direction hit the two-wheeler.

The impact on the collision was so high that Kamal died on the spot, said onlookers.
